Events Information
Fly Tying Gathering
Date/Time/Location
Listed in Newsletter and Upcoming Events

The NLFF will occasionally (usually monthly) hold fly tying sessions for our members and anyone else who would like to attend. The goal of each session will be outlined in the NLFF newsletter and here in the Upcominmg Events section. Sometimes we will help a local Boy Scout troop obtain their Fly Tying merit badge. Other times we will tie a specific fly that demonstrates a certain technique or that is a favorite for an upcoming outing. And sometimes we get together just to tie for fun!

Whatever the reason for the session, experienced tyers will be on hand to guide anyone wanting to learn. Bring your tying equipment and materials and tie whatever you like. If you don't have equipment, you may use some of the club's equipment. We will even supply materials for newcomers so what do you have to lose? Come spend an hour or two with friends and tie one on!

Annually on Last Weekend of January

This outing is a club favorite and has been for years! The Frozen Chozen is all about fishing, food and friends.

Whether you come for the week, the weekend or just make it a day trip on Saturday, you are gauranteed to have a great time. Even though the weather in January can be below freezing, 75+ degrees or anywhere in between, some of the best times were had when the temps were very cold! So don't let the weather deter you from a great time!

If you make a day trip of it, come up Saturday morning to do a little trout fishing and then join us for lunch with a spectacular view of the river and a fireplace under the pavilion. The NLFF provides burgers, hot dogs, coffee, tea and water. We ask that you bring a side dish and/or dessert.

Accomodations are plentiful if you wish to make a full fishing trip of it. Campgrounds are many including the one at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro and the one on Dynamite Hill at the Dam Area. Also in Murfreesboro, there are several hotels. Ccabins are also available for rent in the area including at Swaha Lodge.

Flies & Fleas

Flies & Fleas is the name given to our annual beginning of the summer outing. It is held the same weekend in June as the First Mondays Trade Days in Canton, TX. Fly fishing and flea marketing - hence the name Flies & Fleas!

Camping and event location is at Purtis Creek State Park, Eustace, TX. Hotels are available in Eustace and nearby Gun Barrel City as well as Canton. Admission to the park allows one to fish in Purtis Creek Lake so those from Louisiana do not need a Texas fishing license.

Typically, the Flies portion of the event is fishing on Friday, Saturday morning and Sunday morning. The Fleas portion is an afternoon of flea market shopping on Saturday. Bargains await at one of the largest flea markets in the region!

Fishing at Purtis Creek Lake is awesome! Plentiful Bass, Large Bluegill and Crappie are the sought after species. Four fishing piers and lots of shore fishing along the dam and day use area provides ample opportunity. Kayak fishing is absolutely fabulous! This is a no wake lake with a limit on the number of motor boats allowed on the lake at one time. Plenty of flooded timber provides great habit for large fish with easy access from a kayak. Couple that with no wake and that means no jet skis. Kayakers heaven!

Flies & Fleas is a great outing for the family. Fishing, shopping, plenty of trails, playgrounds and abundant wildlife provides every member of the family an opportunity for a wonderful getaway!
